SERUM LEVELS OF THYROXINE AND HYPOTHYROXINEMIA IN FULLTERM NEWBORN BABIES

Abstract
|
|
|
Serum concentration of thyroxine(T₄) were deter-mined in 1,059 fullterm babies with a postnatal age from 2 to 5 days. Measurement of serum T₄ were made by radioimmunoassay spotted on filter paper. Mean value of serum T₄ were 13.18±3.28㎍ / dl (mean+S.D.) found at 2 to 5 days of life. The level of T₄ for check TSH to confirm hypothyroidism was below 6,62㎍ / d1.
Maximum value of serum T₄ were 14.02±3.89㎍ / dl at 2 days after birth and after this time serum T₄ concentration were decreased.
